The authors consider the nature and content of the terms “information needs” and “information interests” from ontological and epistemological points of view. They substantiate the idea that the nature of human information needs has an objective origin, and informational interests of the personality are of subjective nature. The authors disclose the reasons of information’s incomplete perception by the consumer and the information generator’s social responsibility. They examine the personality’s information interests in the frame of socio-political activity. They have concluded that the consumption of information is mediated not only by the social conditions of a
person’s life, but also by his or her psychological and physiological features that define the relationship and the collateral subordination of universals and particulars. The authors affirm the need for further research of this problem in social and humanitarian sciences.
