The author analyzes the scientific positions on politics-morality relationship in the mass consciousness. He considers Plato's attitude to this issue. Ancient philosopher believed that the ideal state (as embodied justice) needs a lie for its foundation and functioning. Aristotle, in fact, equated politics and morality, as in his work they became one single “science”. Machiavelli proposed another approach, separating these phenomena and, in fact, opposing them to one another. In present-day global politics the daily trampling of elementary moral plinciples is witnessed. In this work, the author tries to answer the question of whether there is a possibility, in the modern political process, for a moral policy to take root in the mass consciousness. He concludes that policy in Russia can become and remain moral if a socio-psychological climate favorable to the formation of civil society and civil political culture of a new level is created with consideration for national characteristics of Russia and Russian mentality.
