The experience of countries that passed the catching-up development period in creating and modernizing their production potential is considered. It is shown that fi rst-order condition of success in taking the trajectory of sustainable high economic growth is the sustenance of high savings and investments ratio. At the fi rst stage of catching-up development the gross savings ratio was heightened mostly by primary investment in traditional industries. Later on the broad diversifi cation of economy is done while establishing top-priority branches. For Russia, taking into account rather high level of traditional industries development, the problem of investments’ structural reorientation and their primary concentration in technologically advanced branches while increasing the quantitative parameters (equity contribution in GDP) is actualized.
