The number takes special places in the range of traditional categories of esthetics. It does not only enter into relations with leading categories of esthetic thinking but even replaces some of them. The esthetic as part of worldview and mathematical as approach stayed in mutually reinforcing equilibrium since Antique times and until the early Enlightenment. Great contribution to the study of number was made by Greek mathematician and philosopher Pythagoras. The application of mathematic methods in esthetics is the most fruitful as applied to the form. In the last decades the proportion principle gained brilliant traction in fractal geometry.
