The article examines some changes that have taken place in understanding space and time in classic epistemology, non-classic and modern science. Special attention is paid to the theory of relativity by A. Einstein. According to this theory, space and time create a single four-dimensional continuum. The author demonstrates human thinking in the modern scientific research has the characteristics which include object representation. As a result, subject and object categories make a system with the elements gaining any sense only in their interdependence and in their dependence on the whole system. The article reasons on the basis of “model-dependent realism” by S. Hawking, that the representation of space and time has mainly the constructivism nature. The author concludes nowadays it’s impossible to introduce the unified instrumental conceptions of space and time, for it would mean using their initial fundamental ideas in the conceptual basis of modern science.
