The question of the information culture of an expert and of its formation by means of humanitarian disciplines teaching at the higher school is considered. The model of the information culture formation developed on the basis of the analysis of common cultural and professional competences, and also professionally important qualities of the future engineer is presented. The structural components of the information culture of an expert are determined, namely philosophical, ethical, psychological, social, technological and emotional-esthetic ones, that defi ned a choice of the most eff ective methods, forms and means of the pedagogical activity for its formation. The problem of developing the humanitarian foundation of some disciplines and the profession as a whole is also analyzed.
