The paper deals with the role of space and time in sign languages. It presents a brief analysis of the categories of conceptual and mental space; it addresses the problem of temporal reasoning and conceptualization of time in verbal languages, multifunctionality of sign space, the plane of content and the plane of expression in the sign languages of the deaf; it compares the categories of embodiment and corporal space in verbal and sign languages.
