The present study focuses on the current status of Russian-American relations characterized by domestic and foreign media as a new cold war. The article analyzes general trends of a new cold war as a phenomena of current world politics and describes common routs and diff erences between American-Soviet global rivalry in 50-80 of the XX century and crises in the up to date Russian –US relationship. Author pays special attention to the etiology, main threats and challenges and possible ways out of cold war stalemate.
