The problem of the ideology of commoners in the Russian revolutionary democracy of the 19th century is considered. For this purpose, the analysis of social and political views, programs, and literary works of V.G. Belinsky, N.G. Chernyshevsky, and N.A. Dobrolyubov was conducted. Their firm ideological positions of building socialism in Russia through the transformation of the peasant community are revealed. Their contribution to the development of revolutionarydemocratic thought is assessed, which in terms of theoretical richness, breadth and depth of posing problems surpasses much of what was done by other representatives of Russian revolutionary democracy.
Key words: commoners, peasant community, utopian socialism, ideology, revolutionary democracy.
