The article is devoted to the philosophical analysis of linguistically-semantic peculiarities of the category of education in the context of such categories as “development”, “enlightenment”, “study”, “upbringing”, “self-upbringing” etc. The authors have accentuated the idea that education can simultaneously be presented as a value, a social institute, process and result. They have concluded that education is a value and social institution, a process and result of spiritual and intellectual improvement of a personality.
