The order of inheritance of movable and immovable property by the nobility according to the main provisions, paragraphs, of the 1714 Decree on Single Inheritance is studied in this work. The reasons for the introduction of the Decree by the state and the reasons for the legalized convergence of fiefdoms and estates granted by the state are given. The attitude of researchers of the 19th century to the peculiarities of transformation of the class structure of Russia and the attitude of Peter the First’s contemporaries to single inheritance are considered. The possibility of transfer of the nobility, who did not inherit the family estate, to other, merchant and clerical ranks is noted. It has been revealed that the dissatisfaction of the nobility with the new land tenure situation, according to the report of the Senate in 1830, served to repeal the Decree.
